Interesting podcast, Jason Morrison is one of the good guys of the media. Constructive criticism: the audio quality of this was unfortunately a bit average, very hard to hear Brenden's comments.
PS, having worked at 2GB a few years ago, I can confirm Alan Jones did have a driver, a rather young man in a very ill-fitting suit.

The above conversation with Fawcett was appalling. How on earth could you let this man slither his way through the entire interview and allow him to slam Nicole Kidman at every chance you gave him. I think he thinks he's actually pulling the wool over the listener's eyes. He would most willingly take $5 mill for a single photo to ease his financial problems. He is only allowed to take photos on the beach, in front of hospitals, airports etc etc because it's considered public property. Just one of the loopholes Fawcett hinted at but wouldn't elaborate on. Fawcett would NEVER invest as much money and time on Kidman and Crowe and others if they weren't the biggest paydays. He has a PI background for a reason. He is constantly skirting the law and paying off contacts in order to get what he says are just mundane photos. Fawcett is just a real piece of work.

the other point about this guy is, he keeps calling 7's Sun. Night "the pretender" and bagging 7's news output. Um, Mark, last time I looked, Sun. Night regularly breat "60" and you are about 2-300,000 short in 6pm news and current affairs. You are losing in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane most nights of the year.

Why did Nine's Royal Wedding coverage tank - bigtime? You didn't ask
him that. They were thrashed by Seven.

"George [Negus] is going to be back in the retirement home"... "Oh to be a fly on the wall, with what I hear is going on between Mike Munro and Chris Bath..." What a jerk!

By the way, Negus is not actually that far off you in the demos, and he's growing! Watch out.

One is doing great. Personally, I think broadcasting sports in the off-peak - daytime - is good for One. May not get the ratings, but superb branding. People want to be associated with One, even though they may not watch daytime sports, they like the brand.

About changing Negus: "We soon realized , it seemed to make sense that 6pm with Negus should have been 6:30 with Negus. ...and there's no question, when you get home , you want to get the news of the day". $20m later, no shit sherlock! Many of us were saying that in September last year!

Its Peter Bainbridge editor/founder of the New indy fashion mag Superfoto (Launched Nov 8 2010) for both men/woman, imagine a giant modern version of Interview magazine (NYC) the size of the SMH/NYT's in great paper stock, 4 times the size of anything in the market. a fashion mag with a deeper read, looks like Paris not Parramatta.

i started Superfoto because most fashion magazines put me to sleep.! print is amazing when thoughtfully considered its still an incredible medium. For the past 4 years I've been putting together the online Version of the You Tube of publishing, all provable sitting in a box (GFC) lets fast-forward to 2011 Superfoto is born, (back to print.?) partly because I got bookmarks up the warzoo and i can't remember what i saw 24 Hrs ago.! right or wrong my thinking is are we at a tipping point where we see the web as a very large gameboy and nothing more.? are we ready for a little old world kaos.? its still seeming impossible to have a meaningful experience on the web given the overload.? its like a racehorse with no finish line.

People have said yeah yeah here we go another Indy, several friends thought this, but when they held the physical copy in their hands and turned those pages they changed their minds, thinking this could actually work if supported by the buyers/planners in Australia, it has International photographers shooting for it, its brilliantly art directed, the broadsheet format is an assault on the senses, its the cinema of print, its something you'd expect to see in Europe or NYC.

My question is: if print is to turn the web-heads back to paper it needs to be genuinely Innovative, it could be argued in the current climate its good money after bad. most smaller formats are flickable akin to TV all sourcing the same content in a smaller space, (the worlds changed we expect Innovation the games very different now) the broadsheet format and curiosity demands you turn every page you can't be missed, your thoughts.?

Interesting chat. John Stanley has been around a long time
John talks a lot of sense here and I second his opinion on Paul Murray.
I wonder if Paul would consider a shift on a talk station?

I found this podcast really interesting, and slightly depressing that even US online media sites were not making money.

Great informative interview, which goes indepth to let people like me know what is really going on out there.

Already online checking out all the people and sites he mentioned.

Interesting to hear Dan's comments about Classic Rock and compare to what I've heard since the launch of Classic Rock. Personally, I'm a fan of Classic Rock, as any station that grabs it's nuts and plays Have A Cigar-Pink Floyd is fine by me. I just wish the speakers in my '93 Camry were better. Surprisingly, and I hope my GM doesn't read this, I don't miss the jocks. The programming features, imaging with artist grabs, news & 15 minute traffic updates in drive make it sound busy enough. As Dan says, I think it's great that Classic Rock is purely classic rock and doesn't pretend to be anything else.
Also, contrary to Dan's tongue in cheek comments, I've listened to quite a few of these podcasts in their entirety and find them quite interesting. It's great to have access to industry professionals. Keep up the good work.

Interesting to hear Dan’s comments about Classic Rock and compare to what I’ve heard since the launch of Classic Rock. Personally, I’m a fan of Classic Rock, as any station that grabs it’s nuts and plays Have A Cigar-Pink Floyd is fine by me. I just wish the speakers in my ‘93 Camry were better. Surprisingly, and I hope my GM doesn’t read this, I don’t miss the jocks. The programming features, imaging with artist grabs, news & 15 minute traffic updates in drive make it sound busy enough. As Dan says, I think it’s great that Classic Rock is purely classic rock and doesn’t pretend to be anything else.

i agree that sonia would have been a spectacular host of X. i think she is on of our most talented tv personalities and could really do with some more exposure to a different audience.

on the morning show kylie mentioned that simon cowell has the last word on the host and that MN's screentest was great. can't imagine what he' be like but it would have to be good to beat people like soni and darren.

Not Sandilands again. I have had to stop watching anything on 7. It's not enough that they've put him on the talent show, but every commercial break on every 7 program has him prancing and sniping. It's sickening. I thought I could escape him by not watching the talent show, but now every program has him in every commercial. Goodbye 7, I'll come back when he's gone, meanwhile. .... gee, I'm gonna miss Home and Away. He's even infected that program with his poisonous garbage.

I totally agree with Di re the Matty Johns issue. It's such a different scenario. The fact that Ch 7 is funding a show with his name???!!! I just think he should have disappeared for a while to recover from the scandal. Personally, I just empathise with the girl in the story. What happened was unforgivable. I do believe in rehabilitation but this is in a legal sense and to get a show is just horrible. He is profiting from this. An apology just doesn't cut it in this sense.

James Manning you're an awesome interviewer. No matter what I think of Kyle Sandilands this interview was just superbly conducted, mining for gold with the patience of a cobra!!! Ok not that I mean that you're actually as venomous as a cobra but just the observation/listening and then the probing skills, a deer sounds too namby pamby. Now I'm going to trawl through the other interviews.

When will these Triple M losers realise the rot well and truly set in the day they sacked Tony Martin.

Craig Bruce has answers for everything, but the minute they mention Tony Martin, he starts mumbling and fidgeting. And Bullsht he has never heard any of TOny's interviews about Triple M

Everything they have done since sacking Tony Martin has contributed to the failure of that once great network

Sorry I couldn't be a part of this trip down memory lane... mind you, you all said it better than I would have and I would have been a downer probably... unusually for me. Good work. I liked the analysis of industry change. And no jokes about Collette. MInd you I'm only 45 mins in...

Remember that time Collette asked Marc if he spoke French and he said, 'un peut' and she said, 'SCRAMBLED EGGS??'
No? I do.
